Sparks Design Internship
At Sparks, I gained hands-on experience in experiential design, creating branded environments, event graphics, and campaigns that combine storytelling, collaboration, and attention to detail.
Year :
2024
Role :
2D Creative Design Intern
Duration :
10 weeks

Problem :
As a student designer, I wanted hands-on experience in a professional creative environment. While I had built projects in an academic setting, I had never worked inside a global brand experience agency where designs needed to translate into real-world spaces, events, and client deliverables. My challenge was to step into a fast-paced environment, learn industry processes, and contribute meaningfully to the team.

Solution :
I joined Sparks Marketing in Philadelphia as a 2D Creative Design Intern during Summer 2024. My work focused on graphic design, event branding, and experiential marketing, using Photoshop, Illustrator, and After Effects.
Highlights included:
Villanova 40th Anniversary Wall → contributed to an installation that became my proudest project, from site visit to final installation.
Intern BBQ Graphics → designed menus, signage, wayfinding, and photobooth branding while also taking on project management responsibilities (organizing meetings and timelines).
AGS Collaboration → explored how 2D design interacts with immersive physical environments.
Personal Project: Hunger Games Premiere → developed a cohesive event branding system from invite to on-site activations.

Challenge :
Learning experiential marketing → understanding how small details like menus or signage impact the overall event experience.
Adapting quickly → every project had a different scale and style, requiring flexibility.
Balancing roles → while I was hired as a designer, I often stepped into organizational and communication roles to keep projects on track.

Summary :
This internship gave me firsthand experience in how design translates into brand experiences that merge the digital and physical worlds.
Key lessons I took away:
Clarity matters at every scale → from event signage to installation walls.
Collaboration is constant → projects required cross-team communication with designers, project managers, and clients.
Small details add up → even the smallest deliverables can shape how a brand is perceived.
Leadership can happen at any level → by organizing intern projects, I built confidence as both a designer and collaborator.
“Morgan’s dedication, positive demeanor, and collaborative spirit made her a standout intern, and I have no doubt she will continue to excel in her future endeavors.” — Jeremy Collinson, Creative Director at Sparks
